These crispy honey BBQ air fryer chicken wings combine sweet honey and smoky barbecue sauce for a perfect game day snack with irresistibly crispy skin and juicy meat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds (900 g) chicken wings, split into flats and drumettes, skin-on
  • 1 tablespoon aluminum-free baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ cup (85 g) high-quality honey
  • ½ cup (120 ml) barbecue sauce (smoky, slightly spicy variety recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat chicken wings dry with paper towels to ensure crispiness.
  2. Toss wings in a large bowl with baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until evenly coated.
  3. Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3 minutes.
  4. Arrange wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overcrowding; cook in batches if necessary.
  5. Air fry wings at 400°F (200°C) for 20 minutes, flipping halfway at 10 minutes for even cooking.
  6. While wings cook, whisk together honey, barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika (if using), and melted butter until smooth.
  7. Transfer cooked wings to a large bowl and gently toss with the honey BBQ sauce to coat evenly.
  8. Arrange wings on a platter, garnish with chopped parsley if desired, and serve immediately while hot and crispy.

Notes

Pat wings dry thoroughly before seasoning for best crispiness. Use aluminum-free baking powder to avoid off-tastes. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket and flip wings halfway through cooking. For extra saucy wings, reserve some sauce to brush on after serving. Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 360°F (180°C) for 5 minutes to restore crispiness. Substitute butter with coconut oil for dairy-free version. Use sugar-free BBQ sauce and syrup for low-carb option.
