Ingredients

  • 68 fresh mint leaves
  • 1 small rosemary sprig
  • Cucumber slices (optional)
  • 1 tsp fresh grated or sliced ginger (optional)
  • Soda water or sparkling mineral water
  • 0.5 oz elderflower liqueur (optional)
  • A few dashes of bitters (optional)

Instructions

  1. Juice lemons, limes, and oranges. Prepare about 1 oz lemon juice and 0.5 oz lime juice per cocktail. Slice cucumber and pick mint leaves and rosemary sprigs. Grate ginger if using.
  2. Make simple syrup by combining equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until sugar dissolves, then cool.
  3. In a cocktail shaker, gently muddle mint leaves and rosemary sprig with 0.5 oz simple syrup or honey, being careful not to over-muddle.
  4. Add 2 oz of chosen spirit (gin, vodka, or rum) and freshly squeezed citrus juices. Add elderflower liqueur if desired.
  5. Fill shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until chilled.
  6. Strain mixture into a glass filled with fresh ice. Top with soda water or sparkling mineral water.
  7. Garnish with a sprig of mint, a thin cucumber slice, or a twist of citrus peel.
  8. Serve immediately and adjust sweetness or acidity by adding more syrup or citrus juice as needed.

Notes

Do not over-muddle herbs to avoid bitterness. Use fresh citrus juice for best flavor. Chill glassware before serving. Use clear, large ice cubes to prevent dilution. Prepare base mix ahead without ice or soda water for up to 24 hours. Add soda and ice just before serving to maintain fizz.
