This easy one-bowl chocolate chip pumpkin bread is moist, tender, and packed with warm spices and melty chocolate chips. It comes together in one bowl with minimal cleanup, making it perfect for fall mornings or cozy afternoons.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (100g) packed brown sugar
  • 1 can (15 oz or 425g) pumpkin puree
  • ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup (175g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the long sides.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together pumpkin puree, vegetable oil, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  3. Sprinkle flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves over the wet mixture. Whisk gently until just combined (a few streaks of flour are okay).
  4. Fold in chocolate chips with a rubber spatula, reserving a handful for topping if desired.
  5. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and spread evenly. Sprinkle reserved chocolate chips on top, pressing gently.
  6. Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs. If top browns too quickly, tent with foil after 40 minutes.
  7. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then lift out using parchment overhang and transfer to a cooling rack. Cool completely before slicing (about 1 hour).

Notes

For best results, use room temperature ingredients. Do not overmix the batter. Let the bread cool completely before slicing to avoid a gummy texture. The bread tastes even better on day two. For gluten-free, use a 1:1 gluten-free baking blend with xanthan gum. For vegan, use flax eggs and dairy-free chocolate chips.
