These cheesy ham sliders on sweet rolls are a quick, easy, and crowd-pleasing recipe perfect for gatherings. Soft sweet rolls layered with savory ham and melted sharp cheddar cheese, topped with a buttery, tangy sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 soft sweet rolls (King’s Hawaiian recommended)
  • 1 pound thinly sliced deli ham (smoked or honey ham preferred)
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded fresh
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds (optional)
  • Pinch of freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the sweet rolls horizontally in half with a serrated knife, keeping tops and bottoms intact.
  3. Arrange the bottom halves snugly in a 9×13-inch baking dish, pressing slightly to eliminate gaps.
  4. Layer about 1 pound of thinly sliced deli ham evenly over the bottom halves.
  5. Sprinkle 8 ounces of shredded sharp cheddar cheese evenly over the ham layer.
  6. Place the top halves of the rolls over the cheese layer, pressing gently to form slider sandwiches.
  7. In a mixing bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup melted unsalted butter, 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 tablespoon poppy seeds (if using), and a pinch of freshly ground black pepper.
  8. Brush the sauce generously over the tops of the slider buns.
  9. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil.
  10. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes until tops are lightly browned and cheese is bubbly.
  11. Remove from oven and let sliders rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Use a serrated knife to slice rolls evenly to prevent sliders from falling apart. Freshly shredded cheese melts better than pre-shredded. If desired, broil for 1-2 minutes after baking for extra crispness. Assemble ahead and refrigerate without sauce for up to 24 hours, then add sauce and bake before serving. For gluten-free, use gluten-free sweet rolls. Sauce is key for flavor—don’t skip it.
