These ham and cheese pinwheels are freezer-friendly, made with puff pastry, cream cheese, ham, and shredded cheese. They bake straight from frozen for a quick, flaky, and satisfying breakfast or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 8 oz thinly sliced ham (honey or black forest)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (Swiss, cheddar, or provolone, or a mix)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) if baking immediately. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, combine softened cream cheese, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and black pepper. Stir until smooth.
  3. Lightly flour a work surface and roll out one puff pastry sheet to a 10×12-inch rectangle.
  4. Spread half the cream cheese mixture evenly over the pastry, leaving a ½-inch border.
  5. Layer half the ham slices over the cream cheese, overlapping slightly.
  6. Sprinkle half the shredded cheese over the ham and press down gently.
  7. Starting from the long edge, roll the pastry tightly into a log. Pinch the seam to seal.
  8. Slice the log into 12 even pieces, about 1 inch thick.
  9. Repeat with the second pastry sheet and remaining filling, ham, and cheese.
  10. Arrange pinwheels cut-side up on prepared baking sheets, spacing 1 inch apart.
  11. Whisk egg with 1 teaspoon water and brush tops of each pinwheel lightly.
  12. Bake immediately for 15-18 minutes, until golden brown and cheese is bubbly. Rotate pan halfway through.
  13. Let cool on pan for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  14. For freezer prep: After slicing, place pinwheels on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for 1 hour until solid. Transfer to a freezer bag. Bake from frozen at 400°F for 18-22 minutes.

Notes

Keep pastry cold. Do not overfill. Slice with confidence. Watch egg wash. Bake from frozen. Puff pastry expands more than you think, so leave space on the baking sheet.
