easy mojito recipe - featured image

A quick and refreshing homemade mojito cocktail featuring fresh mint, lime juice, simple syrup, white rum, and soda water. Perfect for summer or any time you want a crisp, minty drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1012 fresh mint leaves (sprigs)
  • 2 oz (60 ml) fresh lime juice (about 12 medium limes)
  • 1 oz (30 ml) simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water)
  • 2 oz (60 ml) white rum
  • 3 oz (90 ml) soda water
  • Ice cubes (crushed or cubed)
  • Lime wedges or slices for garnish
  • Mint sprig for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare a clean highball glass and fill it halfway with ice cubes or crushed ice.
  2. Place 10-12 fresh mint leaves gently into the glass. Pour in 1 oz (30 ml) of simple syrup. Using a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon, press the mint leaves just enough to release their oils and fragrance without over-muddling.
  3. Add 2 oz (60 ml) of freshly squeezed lime juice to the glass. Stir gently to combine with the muddled mint and syrup.
  4. Pour 2 oz (60 ml) of white rum over the mixture. Stir gently to blend without crushing the mint further.
  5. Top with about 3 oz (90 ml) of soda water. Stir lightly to lift the mint and mix flavors. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and a lime wedge or slice on the rim. Serve immediately.

Notes

Gently muddle the mint leaves to avoid bitterness. Use fresh lime juice for best flavor. Crushed ice chills faster but dilutes more; cubed ice melts slower. Build the drink in the glass rather than shaking to preserve mint aroma. Simple syrup can be homemade or store-bought. For a non-alcoholic version, omit rum and increase soda water or add sparkling lemonade.
