A fun and festive Halloween appetizer featuring a warm, gooey brie cheese wheel wrapped in crescent dough to look like a mummy, surrounded by a colorful charcuterie board of meats, cheeses, fruits, and nuts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 wheel of brie cheese (810 ounces)
  • 1 can (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 2 pitted black olives
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Optional: a pinch of sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning
  • Assorted cured meats (prosciutto, salami, pepperoni, or soppressata)
  • Assorted cheeses (aged cheddar, gouda, or goat cheese)
  • Crackers and bread (buttery crackers, breadsticks, sliced baguette)
  • Fresh fruit (red grapes, apple slices, fresh figs)
  • Nuts (roasted almonds, candied pecans, or spiced walnuts)
  • Vegetables (carrot sticks, cucumber rounds, cherry tomatoes)
  • Dips and spreads (honey, fig jam, or spicy mustard)
  • Halloween-themed extras (optional: candy corn, gummy worms, small pumpkin-shaped cookies)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Take the brie out of the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes. Place the brie in the center of the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Open the can of crescent roll dough and unroll it. Cut the dough into thin strips, about ½-inch wide.
  4. Starting at one edge of the brie, drape the dough strips over the cheese, leaving a small gap at the top for the mummy’s face. Overlap the strips slightly. Use about 6-8 strips.
  5. Slice the black olives in half and place two olive halves in the gap at the top for eyes.
  6. Beat the egg in a small bowl. Brush the egg wash over all exposed dough strips. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or everything bagel seasoning if desired.
  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and the brie is soft and slightly melted.
  8. Remove from the oven and let rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.
  9. While the mummy cools, arrange the charcuterie board: place the mummy in the center, arrange cured meats, cheeses, crackers, fruit, nuts, vegetables, and dips around it.
  10. Drizzle honey over the warm mummy cheese wheel just before serving. Add Halloween-themed extras if desired.

Notes

You can prepare the mummy cheese wheel up to the point of baking and refrigerate for up to 4 hours. Add a few extra minutes to baking time if cold. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free crescent dough. For a dairy-free version, use a dairy-free cheese wheel.
