A quick and easy twist on the classic ants on a log snack using almond butter and dark chocolate chips for a smooth, nutty, and slightly indulgent treat.

  • 46 celery stalks, washed and trimmed
  • About 1 tablespoon (15 g) almond butter per celery piece, natural or creamy, unsweetened if possible
  • 810 small dark chocolate chips (60%-70% cocoa) per celery piece (about 10 g)
  • Optional toppings: raisins or dried currants, chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans), a pinch of flaky sea salt, fresh berries (sliced strawberries or blueberries)

Instructions

  1. Wash and trim celery: Rinse 4-6 celery stalks under cold water. Pat dry with a towel. Trim the ends and slice each stalk into roughly 4-inch (10 cm) pieces for easy snacking.
  2. Spread almond butter: Using a teaspoon or small spatula, spread about 1 tablespoon (15 g) of almond butter lengthwise on each celery piece. Be gentle to avoid breaking the celery. The almond butter should be thick enough to hold the toppings. If almond butter is too thick, warm it slightly to soften.
  3. Add dark chocolate chips: Press 8-10 small dark chocolate chips (about 10 g) gently into the almond butter on each celery piece. They’ll stick nicely without sliding off.
  4. Optional toppings: Sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt or add a few chopped nuts or raisins on top to add texture and flavor complexity.
  5. Serve immediately or chill: These are best fresh, but you can store them covered in the fridge for up to 24 hours. If chilling, take them out 10 minutes before serving for the almonds and chocolate to soften slightly.

Notes

Choose a creamy but not overly oily almond butter for best spreading. Use mini dark chocolate chips for better adhesion and slight melting. Prepare just before serving for freshest texture. Store in airtight container in fridge up to 24 hours. Let chilled snacks sit out 10 minutes before serving to soften almond butter slightly. Avoid adding honey under almond butter to prevent sogginess.
