Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 packets (7.5 teaspoons) unflavored powdered gelatin
  • 2 cups boiling water (divided)
  • 1 cup cold water (divided)
  • 1 ½ cups (360 ml) good-quality vodka (preferably citrus-infused)
  • 1 package (3 ounces / 85 grams) strawberry gelatin (red layer)
  • 1 package (3 ounces / 85 grams) blueberry or berry blue gelatin (blue layer)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) sweetened condensed milk (white layer)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) fresh lemon juice
  • Optional garnishes: mini American flags or star-shaped sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Layer: In a medium bowl, dissolve 1 packet (3 teaspoons) of unflavored gelatin and the strawberry gelatin packet in 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water. Stir until fully dissolved (about 2 minutes). Add ½ cup (120 ml) cold water and ½ cup (120 ml) vodka, mixing gently. Pour into your mold or cups just enough to cover the bottom (about ⅓ of total volume). Chill in the fridge for 25-30 minutes until firm but not fully set.
  2. Make the White Layer: While the red layer chills, dissolve 1 packet of unflavored gelatin in ½ cup (120 ml) boiling water. Stir until smooth. Mix in the sweetened condensed milk, fresh lemon juice, and ½ cup (120 ml) vodka. Once the red layer is slightly firm, gently spoon the white layer on top, being careful not to mix colors. Return to the fridge for another 25-30 minutes.
  3. Prepare the Blue Layer: Dissolve 1 packet of unflavored gelatin and the blueberry gelatin packet in 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water. Stir well, then add ½ cup (120 ml) cold water and ½ cup (120 ml) vodka. When the white layer is set but still a bit tacky, slowly pour the blue layer over it. Chill for at least 2 hours until fully set.
  4. Serve: If using molds, carefully unmold by gently pressing the bottom. If in cups, serve directly. Add optional garnishes like star-shaped sprinkles or mini flags for that extra festive flair.

Notes

For clean layers, ensure each layer is partially set before adding the next. Use cold water to cool gelatin before adding vodka to prevent interference with setting. Use a spoon to gently pour layers to avoid mixing colors. Store refrigerated and consume within 24-48 hours for best texture. Non-alcoholic and dairy-free substitutions are possible.
